Located on the edge of England's first ever Garden City, not far from the A1, and just a short drive down leafy Letchworth Lane, the course is set in beautiful undulating countryside. The Heritage Course is a true parkland course, well renowned for its firm fast greens and tree lined fairways, and is amongst the best the county has to offer. Host to the Hertfordshire County Championships in 2020 and Men's County Foursomes in 2021, the Club is also the home venue for the Hertfordshire Men's 1st team, as well as County Boys & Girls squads.
Originally built in 1905 as a nine hole course and expanded to 18 holes in 1910 to a design by Harry Vardon, the course was further extended in 2003 with more recent developments completed in the winter of 2020. These most recent changes bring fresh challenges with new and re-designed bunkers on holes 3, 4, 5, 6 and 15. The course is a fair test for golfers of all abilities yet can be a serious challenge from the back tees. With accuracy as important as length, it fully justifies its slope rating of 133 from the white tees and 129 off the red tees. The great variety of mature trees forms the perfect backdrop to the course. This provides a profusion of spring blossom from fruit trees, beautiful summer shades from weeping willows, chestnut and copper beech, right through to the classic colours of autumn. There is also an abundance of animal and bird life, including the famous Letchworth black squirrel, muntjac deer, green woodpeckers and kestrels.
In addition to the fabulous Heritage Course, the Club's practice facilities are the envy of many and include a six hole academy course, a driving range, an indoor swing studio, driving nets and a short game area with grass and sand bunkers. The landscaped driving range has 10 covered bays as well as 3 separate grass driving areas which are complemented by the 6 hole Academy course which opened for play in 2017. A new indoor swing studio was built in 2020 and is perfect for practice, club fittings, lessons and private hire.
All members and visitors are encouraged to adopt the ‘Ready Golf' format for both stroke play competitions and general social golf. You will be required to keep up with the group in front, or if holding up groups behind, offer to let them through. When your round has been completed, our bar and catering staff are on hand to provide you with a first-class food and beverage service to further enhance the golfing experience that Letchworth Golf Club provides.
